Despite the first official trailer dropping for GTA 6, the next instalment in the legendary franchise is still clouded in uncertainty. While a bunch of GTA staples are sure to return—from urban crime capers to a deep, intertwined narrative—the finer details are still yet to be defined. So, let’s take a look at some of the most probable things that we could see in GTA 6.
1. A Return to Vice City
GTA 6 doesn’t take place in Vice City—it’s way bigger than that. The game is going to take place in the open world state of Leonida, which includes the city of Vice City (previously seen in GTA Vice City, duh!). This world is pretty clearly based on Florida, with tonnes of Florida references being seen throughout the game’s first trailer.
2. Dual or Multiple Protagonists
The trailer features a variety of characters, but two—a couple—feature front and centre. Many fans are speculating that this couple are both going to be playable characters in GTA 6. This multiple-protagonist approach may well return from GTA 5, but Rockstar are also known for throwing curveballs so we’ll have to wait and see.
3. Evolving World and Story
If Rockstar learnt anything from Red Dead Redemption 2, it was how to create a much more dynamic, ever-evolving world. And that’s saying something, as their previous games had all been immersive in this exact way. We expect to see these systems and this style of world building to continue throughout Leonida.
4. Deeper Character Customization
Way back in GTA IV, some players were a little disappointed by the lack of character customisation. However, GTA 5 worked hard to expand the amount of customisation possible—something that was only furthered by GTA Online and then Red Dead Redemption 2. If Rockstar continue in this direction, we’re likely to see a seriously impressive amount of character customization in GTA 6.
5. Enhanced Online Experience
Over the last few years, GTA Online became the cornerstone of the entire franchise. Keeping the game relevant while the single-player experience remained unchanged. If you’re still immersed in the world of GTA Online you can grab GTA 5 modded accounts to add some spice to your time. Due to GTA Online’s popularity and profitability we’re likely to see GTA 6 online greatly enhance and continue the GTA Online experience. Potentially even in brand new ways.
6. A More Nuanced Approach to Crime
Let’s face it, we’ve all had our fair share of car chases, shootouts, brawls and stealth missions in the GTA franchise. We expect that GTA 6 will introduce a slightly new approach to crime to innovate the current format, differentiating the game from the previous instalment. We already saw this a little with the introduction of Heists in GTA 5, after its initial release.
7. Integration with New Technologies
It’s been 10 years since GTA 5 was released. Feel old yet? Seriously, though, the world has changed a lot in that time. Including a whole new array of technologies and techniques being developed in the gaming industry. This means that Rockstar have a variety of new tools to choose from to make GTA 6 even better. From things like graphical enhancements to the integration of cryptocurrencies (seriously though, let’s not go there).
8. Improved AI and Interactivity
All of the NPCs in the world of GTA are the things that make it feel alive. Over the last decade we have seen wild developments in creating dynamic in-game NPCs, and we’re almost certain to see some of the very best NPCs come out in GTA 6. Rockstar has continually proved that they are the masters at this, so we expect that trend to continue.
9. Enhanced Environmental Interaction
GTA 5 was a huge world, but interactions with the environment were still lacking slightly. Things like wildlife, nature and indestructible buildings left the world feeling just a tiny bit stiff. GTA 6 is likely to fix a lot of these issues, thanks to the systems Rockstar created for RDR2.
10. Easter Eggs and Hidden Secrets
At its heart, GTA has always been a franchise which is ready to poke fun at itself. These usually come in the form of funny easter eggs and secrets scattered around the world for eagle-eyed fans to find. We’re certain that GTA 6 will integrate a healthy amount of humour into its world—both in the foreground and background. So when we do finally get our hands on the game, let’s be sure to keep our eyes peeled.
