The internet and social media have given birth to several platforms that have been ruling our hearts for years. The advent of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter opened doors to a diverse and exotic online experience, enabling us to connect to our loved ones and people from all over the world. The ubiquity of these platforms has become quite evident, so much so that it’s hard to imagine our lives without them.
Among thousands of platforms struggling to become the next Facebook or Twitter, one platform has set itself apart from most others by finding and ruling its own area of dominance. We are talking about TikTok– the popular short-video sharing platform that has garnered billions of users in just a few years since its release.
TikTok has made us fall in love with its interesting short videos and simple interface. With over 1 billion users worldwide, the Chinese platform has redefined how we interact with content online and has popularized the concept of short videos.
However, your fun with TikTok stops when your account gets banned. This is how it happens: You open the app to watch short videos as usual, but your videos don’t load as you see a pop-up that says, “Your account was permanently banned.” What do you do?
We will answer that question to you in this blog. We will tell you if and how you can recover your TikTok account. Read on to find out all you need to know about restoring your banned TikTok account.
Why could you have been banned on TikTok?
If you are a fellow TikToker who uses TikTok to upload your short videos on the platform, we know how frustrating and depressing it can be to get your account banned permanently. Even if you are someone who uses TikTok just to watch videos, getting your account banned is no good either.
If your TikTok account has been banned, it is most likely due to the fact that you have violated TikTok’s Community Guidelines multiple times.
Tiktok, like other leading social media platforms, has set up guidelines to maintain a friendly and supportive environment among the users. Users must abide by these guidelines to continue using the platform without any problem.
The guidelines cover many aspects that this blog cannot cover. For now, you can remember the following activities that might have led to the suspension of your TikTok account:
Hateful behavior
This is arguably the most common cause of account suspensions on any social media platform. So, if you upload any video promoting hate speech or hatred against anyone, your account can be suspended. Any hateful comment of yours can also lead to your account getting banned.
Harassment and Bullying:
This is another common factor that is strictly prohibited on social media platforms and can lead to accounts being banned. TikTok doesn’t tolerate any kind of insult, harassment, or bullying by any user. So, make sure to be respectful and polite towards everyone. If you have made such comments in the past, you know why your account is banned.
Inappropriate content:
Since people of all ages use TikTok, it’s essential to ensure that the content on the platform is appropriate for all users. Posting adult (sexually inappropriate) content can also lead to your account being banned temporarily or permanently.
Violent and graphic content:
Any content that depicts, promotes or glorifies excessively violent, depressing, or gruesome activity is not allowed on TikTok and may lead to account suspensions.
The above are the most common actions that usually lead to account suspensions. You can read the community guidelines in detail by following this link.
Now that we have discussed the potential reasons behind your account suspension let’s move on to the possible solutions.
Recovering a Permanently Banned TikTok Account
If your TikTok account has been banned, we know you want to get it back as soon as possible. But we won’t be giving you any false hope. If you have actually violated the community guidelines multiple times, you don’t have much chance of getting your account back. Trying out the methods mentioned below won’t help either.
That being said, if– after going through the community guidelines– you believe your account was suspended for no apparent reason, you can get your account back by appealing the ban. There are two ways to do this, depending on what message you see after logging into your account.
This method is for those banned users who can see the Appeal button when they open the TikTok app and log in to their account.
For such users, a pop-up appears containing the message that says, “Your account was permanently banned. If you believe this was a mistake, you can submit an appeal.” Below the message will be an Appeal button.
Tapping on the button will take you to the Appeal page. If you think your account was banned due to a technical glitch or a mistake, you can explain your side of the story by filling out the description box. Scroll down and tap the description box to start typing your appeal message.
You can refer to the sample message below for help:
“My TikTok account [@username] was banned on [Date] on the grounds of repeated violations of the Community Guidelines. Since then, I have been unable to access my account to watch and create videos and drop comments.
I have carefully gone through the Community Guidelines, and I assure you that none of my videos and comments have violated any of the guidelines in any manner. Therefore, I believe my account has been banned by a glitch or a mistake.
I request you to unban my account as soon as possible.”
Enter a contact email below the description box. We suggest you enter the email associated with your banned TikTok account to avoid unnecessary delays.
After entering the description and email address, tap on the Submit button. Your appeal will be submitted, and you will get a reply within a few days.
Remember that this method will only work if your account has been banned by mistake. If there have been repeated violations from your end, the appeal won’t help.
