Instagram is among the most populous and famous social media platforms worldwide, second only to its parent company, Facebook. Therefore, one can only imagine the chokehold in which Facebook must have the young generation, right? Well, not really. Although Facebook has been around for longer, it would appear that it has lost the touch that made it popular.
Somewhere along the way, it became a ‘parents’ hub.’ Teenagers realized it’s highly problematic to try and co-exist with their parents on one social media platform. Can they be blamed?
Social media is, first and foremost, a way to connect with friends and acquaintances and let them know what’s happening in your life. And not everything that’s happening in a person’s life can or needs to show to their parents, right?
The Boomer to Gen Z ratio on Facebook was still not the root cause of this issue. That was a lack of modernization. As you must have seen, people are slowly gravitating towards more modern, minimalistic, and sleek designs. The same goes for social media platforms.
Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr regularly update their app designs to ensure up-to-date aesthetics and technology. However, Facebook doesn’t seem to be doing much in that area. Despite regular updates, the platform misses the mark with Gen Z.
Facebook still has the same colors, designs, and features as it did during its initial launch. There are no app-interactive features on Facebook or innovative or unique options that might attract a more modern user base.
Instagram, on the other hand, is a constantly changing ship. There are always new updates with beta features for the users to experience and review. New trends and the latest challenges ensure that even if some of their updates don’t hit the spot, users will still have something to stay for.
Instagram has shown its support for the LGBTQ+ Community, the Black Lives Matter Movement, Roe v. Wade, and many other important current affairs and causes. They’ve also voiced their support for Instagram creators, influencers, brands, and small business owners.
While it might not look like it, all these small opinions amount to a lot when looked at in hindsight.
In today’s blog, we’ll talk about if someone can see that you viewed their story after you’ve blocked them. Stick with us until the end to learn all that is to know about it.
If You Block Someone on Instagram, Can They See You Viewed Their Story?
Instagram is a large social media platform, and it didn’t get where it is today through sheer luck. Many basic policies and rules must be kept in mind to please more than two billion internet users, don’t you think?
One important aspect to be kept in mind on social media is privacy. Every day, privacy is becoming more of a concept than an actual ideal. The internet already allows very little privacy to its users as it is.
However, it would be even more problematic if social media platforms started showcasing our private data to other user or users. While this statement might be arguable for those who don’t care what others think of them, most users will agree.
This is why social media platforms are very careful about what user information is visible to other users. Snapchat has established a particularly esteemed reputation in this regard; it probably provides the most security regarding social media networking sites.
Instagram is also not far behind. Every option or feature which can be objected to on the grounds of invasion of privacy comes with an easily reversible alternative. It’s difficult to decide what is an invasion of privacy and what is not, considering what an ambiguous concept it is.
However, we can still say that Instagram has done quite well for itself.
So, let’s move on to your initial question: if you block someone, can they see that you’ve viewed their story on Instagram?
While the answer to this question is quite controversial, it is the only answer nonetheless: no, if you block someone, they can’t tell that you’ve viewed their story.
While some might think this is unfair: after all, users should know who has viewed their picture, regardless of whether or not they’ve been blocked. However, unfortunately, that’s just not how it works.
Blocking someone is more serious than a story view. When you block someone, you disappear from their network entirely; even your likes and comments are not visible to them.
So, if you’ve accidentally seen your new crush’s story exactly seven seconds after they posted it, we’ve got you. All you need to do is block them for the next twenty-four hours. If they ask you about it (which is highly improbable), you can simply say that you deactivated your account or it was a malfunction on Instagram’s side.
Now that it’s all sorted out let’s discuss how you can do it.
How to block someone on Instagram
Step 1: Launch Instagram on your smartphone and log in to your account.
Step 2: The first page you’ll land on is the Home Screen. At the bottom, you’ll see five icons. Tap on the magnifying glass icon next to the Home icon, which will take you to the Explore page.
Step 3: On the Explore page, tap the Search bar at the top and enter the username of the person you wish to block.
Step 4: From the search results that appear, tap on their profile. You’ll see the three-dots icon at the top right corner of their profile. Tap on it, and a pop-up menu will appear with several options. Tap on Block.
You have two options: either to block this account or to block this person, their other accounts, and any new accounts they might create.
Step 5: Tap on the option of your choice, and you’re good to go. Remember to unblock them after twenty-four hours!
