Let’s talk about introverts. There’s a large population of the modern world today that claims to be an introvert. You’ll often find these people glued to their phones in the quiet corner at parties. Well, that’s taking it a bit too far. Most people in this category tend to avoid parties in the first place. An introvert prefers to spend more time with themselves rather than other people. They thoroughly enjoy their own company, which doesn’t mean just using their smartphone or laptop.
They can typically sit alone for as long as they want without feeling bored or lonely. They like to be in smaller groups, mainly about two to three people, rather than larger social circles. But this does not mean they’re socially awkward and cannot function in a crowded setting.
The main thing is they just prefer not to. They’d rather not willingly submit themselves to social interactions with strangers unless they need to. However, they are normal people and can talk to whomever they want.
Let us tell you that most people who call themselves introverts aren’t actually introverts. They’re just a tiny bit shy, underconfident, or insecure. It’s nothing that can’t be treated with consistent practice and some self-reflection.
They’ve just heard about the concept of an introvert, checked out the symptoms, and thought to themselves, “so, this is what justifies my awkwardness,” even though it doesn’t. They think all introverts are awkward or nerdy, or shy and hate all extroverts. Doing this isn’t only wrong but also unnecessary and self-sabotaging.
Take a look at these questions that’ll help you decide if you’re a true introvert: do you ever feel lonely and desperate for company? Do you want to group of friends you could tell everything without fear of judgment? Have you ever wanted to sit at the large table with everyone else but didn’t because you thought you were an introvert?
If your answer to at least two of these questions is yes, then congratulations, you’re not an introvert. The best method to get past this phase is to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Like Nike always says, “Just do it!” Talk to that person you think is cool. What do you have to lose, anyway?
If you think that’s too big a step, you can start slow with online socialization. Platforms like Instagram, Messenger, and online forums are great places to start talking to strangers.
In today’s blog, we’ll discuss what a grey check mark means on Messenger. To learn about it, stay with us till the end of this blog!
What Does a Grey Check Mark Mean on Messenger?
Like almost everything in this world, online communication has pros and cons. While you might not have to talk to someone face-to-face, some would argue it’s even more excruciating to wait for a message you’re not sure will come.
And while it might sound a tiny bit dramatic, its core concept still has some truth. Online messaging is highly unpredictable since it needs little to no accountability. If you don’t like someone you’re talking to, all you need to do is block them, cutting them off efficiently.
However, that doesn’t mean you should give up altogether. As long as you’re genuine and charming, there’s no reason why you won’t be able to connect with someone you’re meant to be with.
So, let’s say you’re talking to someone you’ve just met on Messenger. Bear in mind that you haven’t used Messenger before, and it’s all new territory. After a few days, they’ve suddenly gone radio silent. They haven’t responded to two of your texts, and you’re debating on a third one.
When you tell your friend about it, they ask whether or not they have seen the messages you sent them. You didn’t have any idea that it was possible to check that, and now you want to test it.
So, when you open your chats with them, you see that there’s a grey check mark below your message. Well, here’s what it means: your message has been sent to your side and delivered to theirs, but they haven’t opened the chat to see it yet.
At this moment, you’re probably feeling relieved, and we hate to be the ones to burst your bubble, but this doesn’t mean they haven’t seen the message yet. Technically, all this shows is that they haven’t opened the chat, which might very well be an intentional decision.
They could’ve seen the message from the notifications and decided not to reply. If you want to know why they would do something like that, go over the message you sent them. Can it be interpreted as a rhetorical message? Could it have been a tiny bit inappropriate or over the top in any way?
Let it be; if they decide to reply, it’s well and good. If they don’t, remember that this is about them, not you. If you’re one hundred percent sure that there’s nothing on your part that you could’ve done differently, you shouldn’t stress about it anymore.
If you’re on the other side of this situation, then we’re sure there’s some reason why you’d want to ghost someone. Maybe their message didn’t sit right with you; we’re no one to judge.
However, the best course of action here would still be to clear the air by just telling them whatever the reason is. You might not want to listen to them justify their actions, but it’s good to have closure. After that, if you don’t want to listen to them retaliate, you can block them without remorse.
Here’s how to block someone on Messenger
Step 1: Launch Messenger on your smartphone and log in to your account.
Step 2: The first screen you’ll land on is your Chats page. Locate and tap on your chats with the person you wish to block.
Step 3: At the top right corner, you’ll see a circular icon with an ‘i’ inside it. Tap on it.
Step 4: Next, you’ll be directed to the Settings page. Scroll down to the bottom to the last sub-heading called Privacy & support. Tap on the second option there, called Block.
Step 5: You’ll be given two options: Block messages and calls and Block on Facebook. Tap on whichever option feels the most convenient for you, and you’re good to go!
In the end
As we end this blog, let’s recap all we’ve discussed today.
Online messaging can often be confusing. If you don’t know the grey checkmark on Messenger, let us help you. It basically means that message has been sent from your side and delivered; they just haven’t seen it yet.
If you come across a user on Messenger who seems inappropriate, creepy, or just not hitting the vibes with you, that’s alright. All you need is to tell them why you’re doing what you’re doing – don’t explain yourself more than that – and then block them.
