Active today:

The “h” stamp has a validity of eight hours, after which it is replaced with Active today.
Active yesterday:
If a user hasn’t open the Instagram mobile app on your smartphone (or desktop) for more than 24 hours straight, their Active today status turns into Active yesterday, with a further validity of 24 hours.
It takes over 48 hours for a user’s active status to disappear completely, in case you were wondering.
How Long Does Instagram Show Active Now When You’re Not
Now, coming to the main question: For how long do you appear active after having gone offline? Well, ideally, it should take about less than a minute for Instagram to register your absence and then update the information on your profile. But things seldom work out perfectly, don’t they?
Instagram has a rather large and diverse user base, and the complaints of prolonged green dots have risen in many parts of the world. Some users have reported that it takes up to 10 minutes for their green dot to disappear, and many have agreed that it is a standard time.

When can it get problematic?
If you’ve shut down the Instagram app for over 15 minutes but can still see a green dot on your profile, then it’s time to report this to Instagram. How to turn your Active status off on Instagram

When you find this option, tap on it, and you’ll be taken to your Privacy tab next.
Step 5: On the Privacy tab, you scroll through the list you come across until you find this option: Activity status.
Tap on this option, and you’ll be taken to a tab that has only one option and a toggle switch next to it – Show Activity Status.
If the toggle switch is green, it means that your active status is visible. To hide it, all you need to do is turn the switch off, and you’re good to go!
