Snapchat is the best platform for teenagers to connect and enjoy without the threat of their parents hanging around. And this might seem to directly imply parents can’t use the platform, but that’s not true! Although Snapchat’s target audience is users from 13-15 years of age, there is no hard-and-fast limit. Anyone can sign up and enjoy the platform, and no one even knows their age unless they explicitly want it known.
Snapchat does not believe in the unnecessary disclosure of any personal information whatsoever. The user’s age, location, picture, or any information of that sort does not need to be displayed on their profile for strangers. So, people who aren’t friends on Snapchat can see very little on each other’s profiles.
If you go to your Quick-Add section, all you’ll be able to see on anyone’s profile is their bitmoji and the option to add them. So, even if your parents are on the platform, it won’t be easy for them to find you without an image or any information.
Sure, your name helps, but several users could have the same name. But if you still wish to be cautious, you can use a fake or a different username to erase that possibility.
In a different scenario, let’s say that your parents are on Snapchat and wish to connect with you. It’s not bad; they’re your parents and want the best for you. But it is an admittedly invasive request that screams “lack of privacy.” If you’re in this situation, don’t worry; there’s still nothing you need to concern yourself with.
You can add and send them the occasional snap, but this doesn’t mean they know what you’ve been doing. As long as you’re careful, your parents will never find out about the snaps you send to your friends.
To ensure that you’re careful, you can make different shortcuts for Family, Friends, and another for Friends and Family. Think of Snapchat shortcuts as similar to WhatsApp broadcasts; they let you send messages to many people at once like they’re in a group, except they’re not.
In today’s blog, we’ll discuss if Snapchat notifies someone if you screenshot their profile, even if you’re not friends on the platform.
Does Snapchat Notify if You Screenshot Someone’s Snapchat Profile Who You’re Not Friends With?
Can you take a screenshot of someone’s Snapchat profile who you’re not friends with without Snapchat letting them know about it? Why, yes, you can! But we’d like to mention that it doesn’t matter if you take it.
Let us explain: Snapchat is a very secure platform. So, in general, there isn’t much to see on someone’s profile unless they are your friend. On a random person’s profile, all you can see is their username, bitmoji, and the option to +Add Friend.
However, it’s understandable why you might wish to do this. We all have friends we no longer talk to; it’s a natural part of life. So, we feel a mixture of wistfulness and recognition when we see them since we had wanted them in our lives at one point.
So, when you see their profile on Snapchat, you can’t help but take a screenshot of their username should you ever wish to talk to them. Now, based on why the two of you fell apart, it could probably be a bad idea to do this, but that’s not what we’re here to discuss today.
Moving on, if you take a screenshot of a user’s profile that you’re friends with, they’ll immediately find out. Unlike non-friends, friends’ profiles also contain personal information like zodiac signs, snapscores, saved-in-chat media, and much more. So, taking a screenshot of their information like that is not a good idea.
If you still need to take a screenshot, you can also do so by asking them before or telling them after. In general, we’d prefer the former, but as they’re your friend and it’s just Snapchat, just informing them about it politely will do the trick.
Let’s now come to a topic we briefly mentioned in the introduction: the concept of making shortcuts. So, let’s say someone has nearly two hundred friends on Snapchat. It’s not easy for that person to send a snap to all of their friends after selecting them individually.
Instead, what they can do is create a shortcut labeled something like “All Friends,” “Everyone,” or simply “Streak.” In fact, you can simply add the fire emoji (🔥) since a streak can also be labeled as just an emoji. That way, they’ll be able to quickly do their part in maintaining all their streaks with friends.
Don’t worry; none of your friends will ever be able to tell that they’re part of a shortcut you’ve created.
Here’s how to create a shortcut on Snapchat
There are two ways you can create a shortcut on Snapchat: through your Chats page and the Send to page. We’ll be discussing them both today.
Step 1: Open the Snapchat mobile app on your smartphone: you’ll straightaway land on the Snapchat Camera screen.
Step 2: Swipe right to go to your Chats page. Now, go to the top and try to pull down your Chats page. The Snapchat ghost will appear, along with the Shortcut column. Tap on the “+” button to create a shortcut.
Step 3: Tap on the blue button called New Shortcut. Choose the people you wish to add to it, then name it by tapping the bar at the top of the page saying Choose Emoji. You can only choose any one emoji for the shortcut.
Step 4: Now, pull down again to make the Shortcut column appear, and this time, tap on the emoji you’ve just created. Next, tap on the circular black camera button at the bottom right.
Step 5: Click a picture, and it’ll be sent to them directly!
Now, let’s create a shortcut directly from the Send To page.
Step 1: Take a snap, and tap the Next button at the bottom right. Under the Send To search bar at the top, you’ll see a small Shortcuts button. Tap on it.
Step 2: You’ll once again see the New Shortcut button. Enter the users you wish to add to the shortcut, assign a cute emoji, and send the snap!
Final words
We’d like to quickly go over all we’ve discussed for your quick understanding.
Snapchat is a large social media platform that is praised and criticized for its sometimes excessive security provisions. Even if you take a screenshot of your friend’s profile, it’ll notify them about it! Thankfully for you, the same isn’t true for strangers.
Since a non-friend profile contains little to no information except that user’s name, it’s safe for you to screenshot it. But that should be enough to make you wonder, why are you doing this then? We’ve also discussed Snapchat shortcuts and the two ways to create them.
If you have any doubts, we’ll be all too happy to clarify them in the comments below!
