Unread a Message on Instagram: Have you ever regretted reading a message on Instagram? Let’s say you were using Instagram, you opened your inbox, and read a couple of messages from someone you didn’t want to read.
If you have been using Instagram for a while, you know that the “seen” tag is displayed right below the messages that are delivered and read by the target audience.
So, whenever the recipient reads messages, the sender will know that the messages are read through the seen tag.
Now, what if you read a message you want to unread?
Or do you simply not want the sender to know you have read their messages?
Fortunately, it is possible to unread a message on Instagram. By marking certain messages unread, you can be assured that these messages will not get lost in the bundle of messages delivered and read.
In this post, we will share with you the ways to unread a message on Instagram.
Can You Unread a Message on Instagram?
Yes, you can unread a message on Instagram but you need to have a business account. There is, unfortunately, no direct way to unread messages on Instagram if you have a personal account.
Important Note: If you have a personal Instagram account then we have a trick that will help you to unread a message on Instagram. Just continue reading the article.
If you open your Instagram business account, you will see the two tabs – primary and general on your inbox. The primary tab is for users who are important to you. You can add your family, relatives, friends, and others close to you to the primary tab. You will receive a notification every time someone from the primary tab sends you a message.
By putting the user in the General tab, you don’t get the notification when a sender sends a message to your inbox. In fact, you can keep the message in the inbox for as long as you want. You can check it whenever you have time. The best part is the primary tab is open by default in your inbox, so there is no way you will read the general messages unwillingly.
Even if you have a text from a user in the General or Primary section, here’s how you can unread the conversation.
How to Unread Messages on Instagram
Method 1: Mark Instagram Messages as Unread (Personal Account)
As mentioned above, the unread feature is available for business account only. So, you can use it if you have a business account on Instagram.
Now, the important question is, “what if you have a personal Instagram account”? Or, what if you want to unread a message on your private account? Is it still possible to unread a message?
Here’s the good news for you.
You can use the third-party app called Hide Last Seen – No Blue Ticks to unread messages on Instagram.
Basically, all messages received on your Instagram DM will automatically be saved in Hide Last Seen – No Blue Ticks app. Here, you can read messages without knowing them and it will also hide the last seen time on Instagram.
Now you have already read the message from the Hide Last Seen – No Blue Ticks app you can reply to them whenever you will decide.
Method 2: Mark Instagram Messages as Unread (Business Account)
People with a business account on Instagram can mark their conversations unread in simple steps. It doesn’t matter whether the chat is in the primary tab or general tab, you always have the option to mark the texts unread and unseen from the Instagram app.
Here’s how you can:
- Open your inbox and click on the three horizontal lines on the top of the screen. It looks like a hamburger icon.
- You will get an option to select the conversation you’d like to delete or mark as unread.
- Click on the conversation and select “more”.
- Select “Mark as unread” from the available options.
What’s important to note here is that it is only a way for you to mark the conversation unread and not unseen. It is only a way for you to mark the conversation unread and save them to read later. Note that this option is not available for the desktop version yet.
Method 3: Don’t Accept Message Request
You can simply not accept the request of the person trying to send you a message. It is possible to read the messages of strangers from the “message requests” section without notifying them that you have seen and read the texts.
Now, if you had already accepted their message request and it shows the seen sign every time you get a message from them, you can simply restrict their use. Instagram has a restrict option that allows users to restrict other users from sending messages or more.
Visit the profile of the person on Instagram and select the three dots in the top right corner of the screen. Click on the “restrict” button. You will get a confirmation message asking you if you want to restrict the messages from a certain person. Click “restrict account”.
Now, it is important to note that this method can help you avoid seen and read tags, but it also restricts you from replying to their messages. Once you have restricted a user on Instagram, you can read their texts but can’t reply.
Conclusion
You don’t want to see everyone’s messages on Instagram. However, we click the conversation with people we do not want to check sometimes. If that ever happens, try the above methods to mark the messages unread. Hope it helps!
