Can you answer one question honestly for us? What is that one thing that you check social media most frequently for? We bet nine out of ten will say stories, and we don’t disagree. What was first launched just as a way of uploading temporary content is now a way users stay connected with each other’s ongoings. This legendary feature that users enjoy on every social media platform wasn’t so popular back when it was introduced.
Initially, it was launched on Snapchat, and Snapchat continues to make it better and more diverse for its diverse crowd. In this blog, we’ll learn more about the Private Stories on Snapchat and how one can access them without adding them.
Private Stories on Snapchat: What are they all about?
Before we get to the bottom of the matter, here’s a question for you: Do you know what Private Stories on Snapchat are? If they’re named differently than the regular Snapchat stories, there has to be a reason behind that, right?
Well, if you’re unfamiliar with Private Snapchat stories, you needn’t worry. It is one of the lesser-used features of the platform even today, and we’d be happy to walk you through it.
How many of you use Instagram? Are you familiar with a Close Friends feature of the platform? Well, private stories on Snapchat are inspired from here and function more or less in a similar manner.
Private Stories on Snapchat requires you to create a special friend list first; in this list, you can add the name of all Snapchat users with whom you want to share these stories. Once the list is ready, you’ll have two alternatives for sharing stories: a normal one for all your contacts to see, and a private one reserved only for your selected few.
What’s even better? These can be uploaded simultaneously as well!
Here’s how you can upload a private story on Snapchat:
For those of you who are adding a private story on Snapchat for the first time, it’s natural to have questions. To help you walk through the process, here’s a step-by-step guide. Take a look:
Step 1: On your smartphone’s menu grid, locate Snapchat’s yellow icon with a white ghost on it. Give it a tap to launch Snapchat.
Step 2: You’ll land on the camera tab first. From here, navigate to a thumbnail icon of your Snapchat bitmoji at the top-left corner. Tap on it to head to your profile.
Step 3: On your profile tab, below your bitmoji, you’ll find multiple sections. The first section is My Stories; you’ll find three options listed here.
The first option is Add to My Story with a camera icon next to it. Following it are these:
New Private Story with a blue padlock next to it.
New Shared Story with a purple icon of three silhouettes next to it.
Step 4: Tap on the first option, and you’ll be taken to a list of all your Snapchat friends.
From this list, you can select all the users you what to share your story with by tapping on the empty circle drawn next to their names.
Once you’re done, tap on the blue Create Story button located at the bottom of your screen.
Step 5: Next, you’ll find the option of naming this story. By default, it’ll be named your name’s private story.
Tap on the black Done button below.
Step 6: When you’re taken back to your profile this time, you’ll notice that below the Add to My Story option, there’s an Add to (your chosen name)’s Story option as well.
All you need to do now is tap on this option, click a picture, and move ahead to upload it.
How to See Someone’s Private Snapchat Story Without Adding Them
Now that we’ve equipped you with the how-to’s of uploading a Private Story on Snapchat, allow us to digress. Perhaps some of you are curious about Private Stories that other users have uploaded, and how one can see those.
Well, obviously, to be able to see a private story, you must be added to it by the user who uploads the story. For that, you need to be on their friend list. But could all that be done without adding them on Snapchat? That seems rather difficult to accomplish, now doesn’t it?
Don’t worry; we do have some possibilities that we can explore together to figure out which one works for you. Let’s take a look:
Can Snapchat Discover help?
Any time a Snapchatter is looking for a story, Snapchat Discover is the first place they should start looking from. You can find this feature when you swipe left on your Camera tab on Snapchat.
However, what we’re trying to figure out here is the possibility of a private story turning up on Snapchat Discover? The truth is, there is none. The Private Stories of even people with open Snapchat accounts are hidden from this section.
So, you have no luck here.
Creating a secondary account might work
If we’ve established anything in the last section, it’s that the key to watching someone’s private story goes through first making a place on their friend list.
If this is problematic for you from your current account, you can always opt for a secondary account from which you start snapchatting them.
Once that is done, perhaps they’ll add you to their Private Stories themselves, and you’ll have access for free.
The bottom line
As we’re ready to wrap up for today, let’s do a quick tour of everything we’ve learned above. Our journey started by talking about Snapchat and its stories. A legendary feature that has now found its way on almost every other social media platform was the brainchild of Snapchat.
With everything else, Stories on Snapchat have evolved as well; now, in addition to regular stories, you can also add private stories for exclusive friends and connections. Above, you’ll also find a step-by-step guide on how you can add a private story on your own.
Moving forward, we considered the possibility of being able to see someone’s private Snapchat Story without adding them. And truth be told, you’re looking at slim pickings. We hope our second suggestion might be able to help you out. See you next time!
